A huge 'thank you' to all the exhibitors who turned out to support the show in the most appalling weather conditions. Despite the atrocious weather, 17 of the 39 expected exhibitors attended with a range of machines including, a domestic vintage mower, a wide range of tractors and stationary engines, a Caterpillar D2, and a unique Pico tractor which is a one-off prototype of a tractor designed for the third-world.

Unfortunately, owing to the soft ground conditions, the usual parade of vintage vehicles, and the proposed childrens' tug-of-war was not able to take place. Nevertheless, we had many visitors to our display area.
Congratulations to Mr. Phillip David of Bridgend, who won the "Martin Robertson, Exhibitors' Choice" prize for his finely restored Massey Ferguson 135. He was presented with his prize at 2.50pm in the President's Ring, by Mrs Dawn Robertson, Martin's daughter, and her young son. In keeping with, what has now become a tradition, the prize was in the form of a glass tankard, hand engraved specially, with an image of a Field Marshall, which was Martin's favourite tractor.

Unfortunately due to the current problems with Tuberculosis (TB) in the Golden Guernsey Herd, the St Mellons Show Goat Section for 2008 has been cancelled.
Goats were believed not to be susceptible to TB, but it has taken a real hold and we don't yet know how far the infection has spread. As this is a great danger to the UK goat population, we have taken the decision to not hold a showing section for them in 2008.
This year we plan to hold a tug of war competition between any brave, strong, and eager children, and one of the steam engines that will be attending. This will take place immediately after the parade of vintage vehicles - around 2pm. It is most likely that we will ask Hogwart to challenge you - a half-size McLaren Road Locomotive. However, don't think for one second that this will be a push over! Hogwart weighs in at over four ton and is more than capable of fulling a full size engine as shown below.
The St Mellons Show typically has about 30 entries each year in the vintage section ranging from small stationary engines, tractors, a D2 Caterpillar, to steam engines af various types and sizes. We are always keen to broaden this section to include suitable exhibits which have an agricultural bias. If you have suitable items please contact me (Carl on 07779 632490) to ask for entry details.
Also, many thanks to those who have supported this section throughout the years - we look forward to seeing you all again this year!
In 1999 Mrs. Pam Robertson decided to sponsor an annual prize in fondest memory of her husband’s long association with St. Mellons Agricultural Show, and his life-long interest in vintage and agricultural machinery.
This prize is to be awarded again this year. It will be awarded to one of the exhibitors of the Vintage Section at the St. Mellons Agricultural Show. The prize is unusual in that the exhibitors themselves will select the recipient. By this means it is hoped that everybody will have a fairer chance of winning regardless of the type of exhibit.
A number of conditions were agreed in 1999 with the introduction of this prize (click "read more" below for more information)

This year there will be a range of traction engines, from miniatures to full size, including a new engine to the area, a half-size McLaren Road Locomotive modelled on Boadicea. There may even be a partially rebuilt engine that is currenly undergoing a total restoration.
This particular steam engine was built in 1906 by John Fowler of Leeds. She was classed as a '7nhp traction engine' but she has many road locomotive features including; front and rear springing, three speeds, a solid flywheel, a belly tank for extra water capacity, and a strengthened drawbar for extended haulage work. The engine worked from 1906 upto 1965 and is now undergoing a well-earnt, total rebuild.
Well - after a period of downtime in the New Year due to our web host "going bust" and not allowing us to retrieve all our website content - the St. Mellons Show Website is back online!
The site has been restored from a backup from May 2006 so the webmaster is slowly updating content to bring it back up to current day. Please be patient as this will be a slow process.
